Not my usual gargantuan library haul, because this was a quick pre-traveling pickup and drop-off of expiring books. I didn’t even do the massive checkout of materials for traveling that I usually do, instead going for tons of borrowed books on the Kindle. So much lighter and easier to pack.
Full confession: I still brought a tote bag of books. Just because I neeeeeeded them.
Fiction
The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith a.k.a. J.K. Rowling
I was some crazy high number on the holds list for this, so I wasn’t expecting to get a copy of it for months. Apparently people are reading it fast, and they bought a bunch more copies so my turn has arrived!
The Treason of Mary Louvestre by My Haley.
Historical fiction set in the Civil War era? Yes please, although I admit to disliking the cover fairly intensely.
Shadows on the Sea by Joan Hiatt Harlow
Another historical fiction tale, this one a young adult book set on the homefront during World War II.
Nonfiction
Beyond the Body Farm by Bill Bass and Jon Jefferson. Liked the book Death’s Acre so much, of course I want to try this one.
Something for the Pain: Compassion and Burnout in the ER by Paul Austin. I love medical memoirs. Hoping this is a good one!
Howards End Is on the Landing: A Year of Reading from Home by Susan Hill. A book about reading books. How meta.
I Will Plant You a Lilac Tree: A Memoir of a Schindler’s List Survivor by Laura Hillman. Love Holocaust memoirs, although I realize that sounds really weird.
Petite Anglaise by Catherine Sanderson. Heard about this memoir through a really roundabout way, but it sounded so intriguing.
